How will an incoming educator go about the different issues on human?
Older teachers were trained in Freud, Erikson, Piaget, and Brunner among other developmental thinkers. Freud has largely left the stage. The others are fading quickly, being replaced with empirical findings about the events of development. We now see development is much more biologically /genetically based than we previously believed, being modulated by a host of environmental factors. What factors and how these work are increasingly a focus. Remediation and change is the second leg of the modern approach. The ability to influence behavior is larger than ever before. Piaget was openly hostile to the ideas of change and control. Freuds role in explaining, and changing behavior was painfully limited. Erikson had more of a descriptive theory, dealing with the big picture eventsidentity formation. The knowledge on development a new educator arrives in the classroom with is far more functional, diagnostic, and translatable into change processes than ever before. Stay well. Stay safe.
